Break (corn)bread with us in solidarity!
International Workers’ Day is a celebration of the achievements made possible through the power of organising. This is an opportunity to connect Cumberland’s rich labour history with the victories of the union movement and to engage in the collective fight for labour rights, equity and economic justice.
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, we will gather to share a good old-fashioned community bean supper featuring working-class favorites: cornbread, baked beans, and coleslaw. It’s a great opportunity to pass on the spirit of solidarity to future generations.
Through our partnership with the Cumberland Community School Society, local students will help prepare the meal and share their knowledge of workers’ contributions to our community, past and present.
Proceeds from this event will directly support workers and their families in our community. These funds will aid the Food Share program at Cumberland Community Schools Society and Educational Programming at the Cumberland Museum & Archives.
